Transcribe WhatsApp voice notes to text
Turn any WhatsApp voice message into editable text in four steps — no forwarding to bots, no account needed.
Download the voice message from WhatsApp Web
Open web.whatsapp.com, hover the voice message, click the ⌄ arrow, and choose Download. It saves as an .ogg file.
Open Voice to Text in the side panel
Click the Voice to Text icon in your Chrome toolbar. The side panel opens next to whatever page you're on — WhatsApp Web included.
Upload the .ogg file
Click Upload file and drop the downloaded .ogg in — files up to 200 MB work. Whisper AI transcribes it in any of 110+ languages — the audio is processed securely and deleted immediately after.
Copy your transcript
The text appears in the panel in seconds. Edit it if you like, then copy it — or download it as a file. Reply in text without listening twice.
Transcribe your first voice note in under a minute
No account needed. Audio deleted immediately after transcription.

Do voice notes from my phone work too?
Yes — the easiest route is WhatsApp Web, since your chats sync there. You can also share the audio file from your phone to yourself (email, Drive) and upload it from your computer.
What format are WhatsApp voice notes?
They download as .ogg files (Opus audio), which Voice to Text supports directly — no conversion step. More on that format on the OGG to Text page.
Is the voice note stored anywhere?
No. The audio is processed securely and deleted immediately after transcription. Only the text transcript remains, and only for you.
Does it work for voice notes in other languages?
Yes — 110+ languages are supported, including mixed-language messages. See Tamil speech to text for an example.
