Tamil speech to text — transcribe Tamil audio

Speak Tamil into the mic or upload Tamil audio — voice notes, lectures, interviews — and get accurate Tamil text in the Chrome side panel.

Whisper AI was trained on real-world Tamil speech, so it holds up on different accents and regional pronunciation — Chennai, Madurai, Jaffna, or the diaspora. It also handles the way people actually talk: mixed Tamil-English sentences come out with the Tamil in Tamil script and the English words intact.

Two ways to use it

Record Tamil speech, or upload Tamil audio

Record your voice

Hit the mic and speak Tamil naturally. Dictate messages, notes, or drafts and get clean Tamil text to copy anywhere.

Upload an audio file

Tamil voice notes, lecture recordings, interviews — upload MP3, WAV, M4A, MP4, FLAC, or OGG and get the full transcript.

How it works

Tamil transcription questions

Can it transcribe Tamil voice notes?

Yes — download the voice note (WhatsApp notes come as .ogg) and upload it in the panel. Step-by-step guide: Transcribe WhatsApp voice notes.

Can it handle lectures and long recordings?

Yes — upload the recording as a file (MP3, M4A, MP4, WAV, FLAC, or OGG) and get the full transcript to edit, copy, or download.

What about mixed Tamil and English speech?

Code-switching is normal Tamil — and Whisper handles it well. English words like "meeting" or "report" stay in English while the rest comes out in Tamil script.

What other languages are supported?

110+ — including Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Sinhala. See the homepage for the highlight list.
