We built Voice to Text with privacy in mind. The short version: your audio is transcribed and immediately discarded. We don't store it, sell it, or share it. Ever.
Who We Are
Voice to Text is operated by an individual sole trader. References to "we," "us," or "our" in this policy refer to the operator of voicetotext.pro and the Voice to Text Chrome Extension.
For any questions about this policy, contact us via our contact form.
What Data We Collect
We collect as little data as possible. Here is exactly what happens when you use Voice to Text:
- Audio recordings: When you record your voice, the audio is sent to a transcription service for processing. It is transcribed and immediately discarded. We do not store your audio on any server.
- Transcribed text: The resulting text is returned to your browser and saved on your device. We do not store the content of your transcriptions on our servers — unless you choose to sign in and sync them (see "Optional Account & Sync" below).
- Usage data: We collect anonymous, aggregated data on request counts and format types (e.g. how many "email" format requests were made). This contains no personal information.
- IP addresses: Your IP address is used only for rate limiting (to prevent abuse). It is not stored beyond the duration of your session.
No sign-up is required to use Voice to Text. To help secure the service, the extension may establish a pseudonymous session identifier — this contains no personal information and is not linked to your identity unless you choose to sign in.
Optional Account & Sync
You can optionally sign in with Google to keep your transcripts synced across your devices. If you do, we additionally store:
- Your email address and a user identifier, received from Google when you sign in. We use these only to identify your account. We never see your Google password.
- Your synced transcripts — the text, title, and settings (such as format, language, and duration) of transcriptions you create while signed in, so they are available to you across devices.
This data is stored with our database provider (Supabase) and protected so that only your account can access it. Signing in is never required to transcribe — sync is the only thing an account adds.
You can delete individual synced transcripts at any time from within the extension. To delete your account and all associated data entirely, contact us via our contact form and we will remove it promptly.
How We Use Your Data
The limited data we collect is used solely to:
- Provide the transcription service
- Provide optional cross-device sync for signed-in users
- Prevent abuse of the service (rate limiting and authentication)
- Understand aggregate usage patterns to improve the product
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the service.
We do not sell your data to any third party. We do not share your data with advertisers.
Cookies
The Voice to Text website does not use tracking cookies or analytics cookies. The only cookies that may be set are strictly necessary technical cookies set by our hosting provider for security and performance purposes. These are exempt from consent requirements under GDPR.
If you watch the embedded YouTube video on our homepage, YouTube may set cookies after you click play. We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode to minimise this.
Data Retention
We do not retain audio recordings. Transcribed text is not stored on our servers unless you sign in and sync — synced transcripts are retained until you delete them or your account. Anonymous aggregate usage metrics are retained for up to 12 months to help us improve the service.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
